ROBERT SCHNEIDER
(author): His first novel, Schlafes Bruder (Brother of Sleep)
appeared in 1992 and immediately became a worldwide success,
with over 200 reviews. Translated into 24 languages, Schneider
received numerous awards including the Premio Grinzane Cavour
(the most important literary prize in Italy for foreign-language
literature), the Prix Médicis (Paris, France), among
many others. In 1993, his dramatic monologue, DRECK (DIRT)
premiered at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. The piece was
awarded the Dramatist's Prize at the "Potsdam Theater
Days," and was selected by the jury as the "best
contemporary stage work".
PAUL DVORAK (translator): Professor of German
at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, where he
has been teaching German language, literature, and culture
since 1974. He also serves as program coordinator for the
six residential language programs that comprise the Virginia
Governor?s Foreign Language Academy. His area of research
expertise is modern German, and especially Austrian, literature.
In addition to Robert Schneider?s Dreck (Dirt), he has published
translations by and about Arthur Schnitzler, Franz Kafka,
Stephan Hermlin, and Alfred Kolleritsch, among others. A frequent
traveler to Europe, he has been the recipient of several Fulbright
and National Endowment for the Humanities awards for study
in Germany and Austria. He is presently editing volume two
of Modern Austrian Prose: Interpretations and Insights for
Ariadne Press.
DAVID ROBINSON (director): Recent credits

at venues such as Seattle Shakespeare, Greenstage, American
Play Lab, Brit/American Theatre Festival, Dimensions Theatre
